COSA: La prima edizione del FADA - Festival Arts Design Acerenza porta il piccolo borgo lucano agli occhi della comunità artistica contemporanea internazionale ed e’ visitabile fino al 15 agosto.
Tema del festival sono il rispetto per l’ambiente e la natura, la sostenibilità e i cambiamenti climatici.
Gli spazi utilizzati sono otto antiche botteghe del centro storico, ormai chiuse da decenni, che per l’occasione sono state messe a disposizione dai proprietari e convertite in pop-up espositivi temporanei. Qui lo storico passeggio serale di un tempo diventa ora un’immersione creativa multisensoriale. Arte digitale, proiezioni, installazioni fotografiche virtuali, opere NFT (non fungible token o gettoni cripto), un viaggio virtuale meditativo nel cuore della mente umana in un metaverso con l’utilizzo di visori Oculus, e infine un’installazione sonora ambientale prodotta da piante, sono le installazioni presentate per il lancio dell’iniziativa che contrappone tecnologie del futuro all’antico centro storico millenario.
Uno dei pop-up presenta i disegni 3D realizzati dalla designer cubana, Arantxa Sanchez Puentes giunta da L’Avana a luglio dopo aver vinto una residenza presso la Felegnameria Salandra ad Acerenza come premio del concorso Design Havana 2021.
Dislocata nella villa comunale, solo per il giorno domenica 14 agosto alle ore 18:00, è invece un’inaspettata installazione sonora ambientale dal nome Arcadia, generata da piante collegate ad un sistema tecnologico che trasforma la resistenza galvanica della materia in suono. Il risultato e’ un concerto emozionale da non perdere. L’installazione è del musicista e compositore Australiano Sam Nester che vive a New York e il suo curriculum artistico annovera performance per il Lincoln Center di New York, il Brooklyn Arts Museum e il Paris Opera Ballet tra le tante collaborazioni di spicco.
PERCHE’: Lo scopo dell’iniziativa è di sperimentare come l’immenso patrimonio immobiliare di case e locali non utilizzati, sia pubblico che privato, possa essere sfruttato per trasformare il piccolo borgo, annoverato tra i più belli d’Italia, in una Colonia Artistica Internazionale. L’obiettivo è di stimolare la creazione di condizioni ottimali di ospitalità, produzione ed esposizione per artisti e designer sia italiani che stranieri, che potrebbero trascorrere qui periodi più o meno lunghi di residenze creative, con ricadute positive per il ripopolamento del borgo.
Concepito come progetto sperimentale pilota, il FADA 2022 fornirà valutazioni e dati per la stesura di un progetto pluriennale necessario per la ricerca di finanziamenti strutturali per ripetere ed espandere quest’iniziativa. Il sogno è fare di Acerenza una destinazione artistica internazionale ambita per le sue residenze programmate e organizzare un festival annuale. Ciò creerebbe un nuovo attrattore turistico per l’intera regione che susciterebbe interesse presso un pubblico internazionale che predilige le destinazioni remote, l’arte e la natura, con conseguente sviluppo economico locale.
GLI ARTISTI: Il FADA 2022 presenta 50 lavori selezionati tra le oltre duemila opere raccolte nel corso degli ultimi 12 anni e pubblicate nella galleria/showcase online della piattaforma EcoArt Project. In mostra ad Acerenza le opere digitali degli artisti Cheryl Maeder (Florida), Harold Garcia (New York), il gruppo MYStudio di Anna Borou Yu, Jiajian Min e Tiange Zhou (Cina e Boston), Sam Nester (New York e Australia), Rocco Davide Stigliani (Bologna e Tolve), Giuseppe Lo schiavo (Londra e Milano), il magazine IRK e il gruppo French Cowboy - Mia Macgarlane & Julien Crouigneau (Parigi), Peter Gerakaris (New Hampshire), Arantxa Sanchez Puentes (L'Avana), Christopher J Carter e Raleigh E Latham (California), Stefie Gan (New York), e Costas Picadas (Grecia e New York).

Da oltre un decennio, EcoArt Project conduce un lavoro di community building che oggi comprende oltre duemila artisti da tutto il mondo specificamente sul tema ambiente.

WHAT: The first edition of the FADA - Festival Arts Design Acerenza brings the small Italian village of Acerenza to the attention of the international contemporary art community. The festival runs through August 15.
The theme of the festival is respect for the environment and nature, sustainability and climate change.
The festival is set up in eight historic shops in the old center of the town, shuttered for decades, which for the occasion were made available by the owners and converted into temporary arts pop-up. Here the historic evening stroll of yesteryear has become a multi-sensory immersive experience. Digital art, projections, virtual photographic installations, NFT works (non fungible tokens), a meditative virtual journey into the heart of the human mind in a metaverse using Oculus viewers, and an environmental sound installation produced by plants, are amongst the installations presented that contrast technologies of the future with thousands year-old historic center.
One of the pop-ups presents the 3D drawings made by the Cuban designer, Arantxa Sanchez Puentes who arrived from Havana in July after winning a residency at the Felegnameria Salandra in Acerenza as a prize in the Design Havana 2021 competition.
Located in the municipal park, Sunday August 14 at 6pm only, is an unusual environmental sound installation called Arcadia, generated by plants connected to a technological system that transforms the galvanic resistance of matter into sound. The result is an emotional concert not to be missed. The installation is by the Australian musician and composer Sam Nester who lives in New York and his artistic curriculum includes performances for the Lincoln Center in New York, the Brooklyn Arts Museum and the Paris Opera Ballet among the many prominent collaborations.
WHY: The purpose of the initiative is to explore how the immense real estate assets of unused commercial and residential properties can be exploited to transform the small village, considered amongst the most beautiful in Italy, into an Artistic Colony center of international reference. The goal is to stimulate the creation of optimal conditions for hospitality, production and exhibition for/by both Italian and foreign artists and designers, whose time spent in creative residences here, would have positive repercussions for the repopulation of the village.
Conceived as an experimental pilot, FADA 2022 will provide assessments and data for the drafting of a detailed multi-year project to seek funding to repeat and expand this initiative. The dream is to insert Acerenza into the circuit of international artistic destination for residencies and to organize a major annual festival. This would create a new tourist attraction for the entire region that would attract interest from an international audience drawn to remote destinations, and the combination of art and nature, resulting in local economic development.
THE ARTISTS: FADA 2022 in Acerenza includes the digital works of artists Cheryl Maeder (Florida), Harold Garcia (New York), the MYStudio group of Anna Borou Yu, Jiajian Min and Tiange Zhou (China and Boston), Sam Nester (New York and Australia), Rocco Davide Stigliani (Bologna and Tolve), Giuseppe Lo schiavo (London and Milan), the IRK magazine and the French Cowboy group - Mia Macgarlane & Julien Crouigneau (Paris), Peter Gerakaris (New Hampshire), Arantxa Sanchez Puentes (Havana ), Christopher J Carter and Raleigh E Latham (California), Stefie Gan (New York), and Costas Picadas (Greece and New York). Over fifty of the pieces are cutting edge entries from over two thousand works collected and published in the online gallery/showcase of EcoArt Project platform over 12 years of work in the sector.
CURATION: The project is curated by EcoArt Project, a nonprofit organization based in New York. The nonprofit was founded by Pino Fortunato, a native son who left Acerenza thirty years ago. FADA enjoys the patronage of the Municipality of Acerenza.
EcoArt Project's initiatives harness the power of art and design to bring attention to the subjects of climate change, sustainable development and respect for nature. Initially founded in Italy in 2010 as an online platform, since 2013 it has been based in New York and conducts international programming. For over a decade, EcoArt Project has been conducting community building work and working with artists and designers to create experiences with messages of environmental impact, through exhibitions, competitions, residency programs and creative placemaking.
